From Your PA Presidents

Now that we have made it through two full weeks of school, we wanted to take a minute to say thank you to all of you who helped make our first few PA events a success. It was great to see so many new faces at our welcome coffee in the garden on the second day of school. We were also thrilled have an almost full house at our first General PA Meeting on September 13. For those of you who weren’t able to attend, we were lucky enough to welcome Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal as our guest speaker. Also, our Principal, Monica Berry made herself available, as she does at every PA Meeting, to answer your questions. Minutes will be posted (once approved) on under the Parents’ Association drop-down.  We hope to see even more of you at our next meeting on Friday, October 11 at 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Some of you have mentioned that you want to get involved but aren’t sure how to do it. There are many volunteer opportunities throughout the year, but we wanted to highlight a few specific jobs that we need to fill right away. First, we are looking for a team to sell PS 87 gear at upcoming school events. This is a fun, easy way to help build the school community and spirit – not to mention get first dibs on the best merch! We are also still looking for a parent to head our Committee on Special Education. This committee serves as a support system for parents of children with IEPs and works as a liaison between parents, administration and the Department of Education. If you are interested in either position, or just want to help out in general please email us at

We are looking forward to an amazing year!
