PS 87 Backpack News: February 24, 2020

Parents Association – Get Involved!

Our PA presidents spend countless hours each week to ensure that the PA board, parent volunteers, and administration are all working together to meet the needs of our children. They also represent PS 87 as part of the District 3 President’s Council. We are a PA, not a PTA, so by definition we aren’t working directly with teachers (even though we do unofficially!). Here are some of the ways parent volunteers help our school:

The parent members of the School Leadership Team (SLT) meet and collaborate each month with the administration and teachers to ensure our kids’ educational needs are being met.

A dedicated team of parents work tirelessly for months to host our biggest fund-raiser of the year, the PS 87 auction.

The Fundraising Committee makes sure your kids have a blast at Harvest Fest and Spring Fair.

Dedicated parent musicians learn songs and coach our kids to make sure Rock Night and Broadway Night are evenings to remember.

Backpack News and the fantastic PS 87 website are completely parent run.

The Culture and Community Committee hosts several events throughout the year celebrating our diverse community.

The Wellness Committee seeks out ways to keep our kids healthy while inside the school.

Family Giving works tirelessly to raise money for the school and manage the money that comes in while PA Treasurers ensure that our money is managed, budgeted and tracked.

The Green Team ensures our school is sustainable while the Garden Team keeps the flowers blooming.

A dedicated group of parents work in the school library supporting our librarian and run our amazing Book Fair.

And of course the class parents and the class parent liaisons who make sure all is going well in the classrooms.

Please remember to say thank you, show your appreciation, or better yet, get involved! There are 100 different ways to support our PA, both big and small. To find out more, please visit our website’s Parents’ Association Page. We hope you will join us and run for some of the open positions available for the 2020-2021 school year.  Elections will take place at the General PA meeting on Thursday, April 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Building Project Committee

The PA has formed the Building Project Committee to help coordinate, monitor, and communicate all construction related activity that will take place on PS 87 property. The co-chairs of this committee are Angela Ranieri, Pam Unger, and Stephen Harman. Please email angelaranieri15@gmail.com if you are interested in joining the committee.

Afterschool Committee Meeting

The next 87 Afterschool committee meeting will take place on  March 13 from  8 – 9 a.m. in the library. Please come with ideas and comments about your Afterschool experiences.

PS 87 Auction is March 28!
