Construction Updates – 8/30/20

Boiler Update

The scheduled abatement is currently going smoothly and as planned. We are expecting the teachers and admin to be able to have access to the building beginning Monday August 31st. The building hours for PS 87 staff have been designated by the DOE as 8:00am-4:00pm. This has been communicated to the SCA and the GC will plan any work around those hours. The permits to install the temporary boiler on site have been approved and there is an approximate 2 week timeline for that so we expect to have that in place by mid-September. We are currently in the permitting process for the sidewalk bridge and scaffolding. We also need DOT permits for storage and staging. Starting next week, the SCA will focus on permits and paperwork without any physical work in the building. We hope this will make the opening process somewhat less stressful for all.

Window Update

The window installer did a walk through with the contractor to take measurements and samples. There was NO asbestos related activity and any material removed was patched. The walk through will enable the window installer to provide a more thorough plan on the window installation. We currently have no information on the timing of the windows, but as previously mentioned this phase of the project has been pushed out significantly.

Roof Replacement

There is not update or timeline to report for this part of the project. We will keep you posted as we know more.

Additional Information

All construction workers will be required to abide by their COVID safety plan(which can be found in the documents section) which includes additional hand washing stations outside the building prior to entrance, requirement of all workers to wear masks, and temperature checks and health screenings of all workers. We have asked the SCA to provide information about how they plan to deep clean and sanitize rooms that will be worked on after school hours so that they are ready for school in the morning. The SCA is going to work closely with Monica and our custodial staff to ensure proper cleaning and safety of the building.
