School Covid Testing Results
If your child(ren) has been selected for random Covid testing, be aware that test results may go directly to your email address. The subject of the message usually has text saying “Secure” with alpha-numeric combinations as well. The notifications come from BioReference.com. Be on the lookout and check your spam boxes as well. You may also get a phone call, however the email method has been common recently.
Yes, We CAN
The Fifth Grade Student Council has organized the Yes We CAN Food Drive. It will run from January 28 to February 10. We will collect canned food and nonperishable items like pasta and pancake mix in the donation boxes at each entrance to the school. The food will be sent to Ascension Church between Broadway and Amsterdam on 107th Street. Thank you for your help and donations.
MyStudent Account Setup for Report Cards – January 29
In order to see your child(ren)’s report card on January 29, you will need to access his/her/their mystudent account on the DOE website. There are quite a number of people who have yet to access their account. If you need assistance setting up or accessing your account, please reach out to our Parent Coordinator, Jennifer Stark, email@example.com. This is the only way report cards can be obtained, so please make sure you have access.
Family Book Group – February 1, 6 p.m.
Our first Family Book Group meeting is fast approaching! We will be discussing Separate is Never Equal by Duncan Tonatiuh. Our fabulous Librarian, Dawnica, has done a read-aloud. You can listen to her read it again and again to prepare! Or you can pick up the book and read it together as family.
Remember to mark your calendar for the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m.!
Dual Language Survey – Still Open!
The Spanish enrichment survey has been extended. If you are part of the Dual Language program and did not fill it out, please do so today! Click here to fill it in.
School Leadership Team (SLT)
The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a collaborative team of parents, teachers and the Principal that is mandated by state law to act as an advisory panel for the school community. The SLT helps create structures for school-based decision-making, develops school-based educational policies, and ensures that resources are aligned to implement those policies. Additionally, the SLT writes and reviews the school’s Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP). SLT meets once a month during the school year, and meetings are open to the entire school community. Two parent members are needed to serve for a two-year term, and SLT elections will take place in the next few weeks-at the General PA meeting on February, 10. Interested parents should email a bio to: firstname.lastname@example.org.

Video Link from the January 13 General PA Meeting
Here’s a link to the presentation in case you missed the meeting and would like to listen to the PA and Admin updates. We did not record the 4th grade Student Council presenting their findings from their recent survey of the student population.
Meet up with fellow PS 87 parents and burn off some steam by going for a physically distant walk in Central Park! Meet every Wednesday in the Big Yard after drop-off (weather permitting, once the building reopens). Younger siblings and parents with strollers are welcome! Please wear a mask.

Family Giving – Reminder
Dear PS 87 Parents:
The amazing experience we’ve all come to expect at PS 87 isn’t possible without your help. The Department of Education does not provide our incredible administration, faculty, and staff with all of the resources they deserve.
We’re asking every family to contribute the $960 that the PA spends per student each year, or more if you can, but we are grateful for whatever you can afford, even just $1 a month. And if this year your family is in need and cannot contribute, please reach out to the PA or to Jennifer Stark, the school’s parent coordinator. The PA is here to help ensure that every child has the same special PS 87 experience.
