PA Presidents Update (Angie)

  • Admin will arrive late
  • March Madness is currently happening through the end of March – we need more participants
    • Send pics in for PS87 website 
  • There is a march at city hall on Saturday for keep schools open
  • Picture day is April 23 (cohort B) and April 26 (cohort A)
  • April 24 is Fun-raiser, “Fun in the Sun” Cabaret
    • Call for performers and video producer or editor 
  • Teacher Appreciation Day is May 4th
  • Scholastic Bookfair coming up May 8/9 or May 21/22 (rain date)
    • It will be outdoors
  • Family Bookclub is the first Monday of every month

School-wide Art Project (Euna Kim)

  • Only have 100 more squares needed
  • Virtual Art Fundraiser 4/5 – 4/26 there will be an online art sale 

Fundraising (Angie)

  • Where does the money collected by the PA go?
    • Enrichment- fully funded by the PA
    • PPE this year is an expense 

 Treasurers (Kim/Stacey) 

  • See February Treasurers Report (also in Appendix)
  • Changes in expenses was due to AS vendor being paid out of the AS account
  • 100K was budgeted for termination expenses related to AS
    • We still have 9-10K that we need to cover AS vendor payments
    • There will still be about 8K (of the 100K) left over that we would like to use for the initial start-up costs of AS program in the fall
  • More to come on AS budget at next month’s meeting

Afterschool (Stacy)

  • PA voted to create a separate legal entity for AS
  • Next steps are to establish a committee and then hire staff
  • Vote to approve use of 18k to get AS up and running 
  • 96% approve use of funds
  • 4% (1 person) abstained from voting 

Teacher Appreciation Ideas for May 4th (Angie)

  • Are we allowed to bring them all together or must it be remote?
    • Jennifer Stark clarified that we should not do that because of quarantine regulations 

Admin Update (Monica)

  • There have been a lot of questions about why there are two positive cases and no closure– this time we were lucky they did not have to close the building
  • There have been a lot of questions about 5 days a week option
    • We have a staffing shortage despite the fact that we have extra classrooms
    • Working with SpacePlanning it is clear we are at capacity for our classrooms 
    • Currently gym classes and tai-chi classes RE outside. 
    • Working on schedule which gets every child outside at least once a day 
  • We have to change our remote learning day from May 12 to May 19 
  • State testing guidelines are still unclear 
  • Fall planning is still unclear. 
    • Mayor did announce he is planning for 5 day a week. 
    • We all want that. 
    • Still lots of info we don’t have. 
    • We are all hopeful that we will be back however we need to hold the possibility that it may look different 
  • We are projected to have 683 students in fall down from 850 students last year. We have a big deficit (663K)
    • When we start off the year we may have to adhere to larger classes 
  • Office hours 3/17 at 9:30pm
  • It is still possible to switch into blended learning from remote
  • Kazue Introduced Victoria Spencer to help with third grade on remote days
  • Please let admin know if families are coming back to the city after moving away so admin can pre register them 
  • Math League – orientation tomorrow 
    • Monica is going to be the staff point person
    • It will be open to remote and in-person kids 
  • Coding Club – orientation tomorrow 
    • Kazue will be the staff point person 
    • Based on students’ interests
  • Drama and Art Clubs will also begin soon, probably on Tuesdays
