Support Westside Campaign Against Hungers’s Annual Turkey Drive!

(Greta – can you use this image in the template?)

PS 87 is continuing our tradition of supporting the Westside Campaign Against Hunger to help feed those in need this Thanksgiving. Hunger has hit our community hard these past few years and a $27 donation will provide a family with a holiday meal. Our goal is to have as many of our families as possible donate turkeys to others in the community to help make the holiday special.

In addition, homemade Thanksgiving cards from our students were a big hit last year, so we’d like to include them to be distributed along with the turkeys. Cards may be dropped off with your child’s classroom teacher.

The final day for turkey donations and homemade cards is Tuesday, November 23.

Please join our school family in supporting other families by scanning the QR code below.  This year, PS 87 has its own Turkey Drive fundraising page!

DEI Task Force Update

The DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) Task Force is a voluntary group of parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and Afterschool staff, aiming to represent the many backgrounds present within our vibrant PS 87 school community. Our role is to keep a pulse on any identified pain points within our community, and act as a bridge to provide, as best as possible, solutions or guidance to minimize barriers, and to create an atmosphere where everyone feels included.

The main takeaway from our meeting on October 27 is that in order to focus on our “One Family Under the Sun” school philosophy, our first step is to build community, to help families feel welcomed and valued, at events, in communications, and generally in the community.

In order to do that, we came up with three initial pillars (yet to be fully defined):

  • Be Celebrated
  • Be Heard
  • Be Included

The date of the next meeting is yet to be confirmed, but we’re planning on meeting via Zoom.  Everyone in our PS 87 community is invited to take part.

In the meantime, we have noted your feedback, and are planning a DEI area on the PS 87 website, are considering resources on tackling anxiety, have made communications available in other languages, and with the evolution of the above mentioned pillars, we hope events and programming will become more accessible to everyone.

Thank you again for all the feedback so far, and please do continue to reach out. Our email address is:
